We believe that God wants everyone to be saved!
Salvation is a free gift from God. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. God calls all people to repentance. God wants everyone to confess Jesus as Lord, to be baptized (immersed) into Christ, and to live a life that is faithful until death. (2 Peter 3:9; Romans 10:9-10; 6:3 - 4; Revelation 2:10) |
who should be baptized? |
Any person who is willing to repent of their sins and confess their faith in Jesus Christ as God’s Son should be baptized.
(This is why we do not teach infant baptism. Every Bible example we have of baptism is a person who is of a knowing age and repents of their sins.) |
How should I be baptized? |
The word for "baptism" in the New Testament is the Greek word “baptizo,” which means, "to dip, or immerse in water." The New Testament says baptism represents the death, burial and resurrection of Christ
Romans 6:1-5, “What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” Baptism serves as a symbol of the burial of the old self and the resurrection of the believer's soul to walk in new life with Christ. Therefore, at RCC, we baptize people by immersing them in water. |
When should we be baptized? |
We encourage people to be baptized as soon as he or she realizes their need for Jesus Christ. The Bible teaches we are saved by grace through faith (Eph. 2:8), but in the New Testament we see that baptism is the place and time we can point to as our union with Jesus Christ.
Just like a wedding ceremony. There was a lot that led up to the event. There is a lot that follows the event. But you look at that moment as the time you became united together. That’s why we encourage people at RCC to be baptized as soon as you have decided to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. |
Why should I be baptized? |
A person should be baptized to follow the example of Christ (Mat. 3:13-17)
To obey Christ's command (Mat. 28:18), To accept forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16), To receive the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38), To express trust in Christ (Acts 8:12-13), To testify to God's work in his or her life (Rom. 6:1-8; Gal. 3:27). Baptism also serves to cleanse a guilty conscience (1 Pet. 3:21). The Holy Spirit prompts individuals to recognize their sin and guilt. The only method by which the human soul can be wiped clean of sin is through the blood of Jesus Christ (Heb. 9:27-10:7). This "washing away" of sin is most clearly symbolized in the act of baptism (Acts 22:16; 1 Pet. 3:21). |
Should I be Re-Baptized? |
Any person who has trusted in Jesus as the only Son of God and who has willingly been immersed into Christ for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit may become a member of the Christian Church, whether the baptism occurred here or elsewhere.
Rebaptism is encouraged for those who lack confidence in their initial baptism experience because they don't remember it, they were coerced, or their heart was not right with God at the time. Anyone who has fallen into sin after having been baptized should repent and seek forgiveness, but rebaptism is not necessary (Acts 8:13-24). If you still have concerns, please consult the minister about your situation. |
Do I have to be baptized
|
No. Baptisms at other times are acceptable. However, we encourage showing videos of baptisms during our worship services because they provide the opportunity to testify to your faith and show humility. (Acts 8:38; 16:33)
Your example might encourage someone else to do the same. |
To summarize baptism, what we are saying is without this response you do not have the promises of God’s Word. Without faith in Christ, Repentance to Christ and baptism into Christ there is no scriptural basis for being right with God.
